Llanhilleth Colliery and railway station
Llanhilleth Colliery is documented as having
workings going back to 1802, however between 1860 and 1890 the workings were
deepened and extended eventually leading to 3 shafts being used. The main seams
that were worked, were "Tillery, Big Vein, Three Quarter, Black Vein, Meadow Vein
and Old Coal". By 1950 only the Big and Meadow Veins were being worked.
