Llanhilleth

Map from Expedia

I expect most people know that Llanhilleth is undergoing a £10 million regeneration scheme and I am pleased to report that stage one is now completed with the construction of a new access road off the A467 and the building of a new pavilion and members club, the school is also now finished. The Ebbw Valley line to Cardiff has recently opened and we are just waiting for the completion of Llanhilleth station. please see link for information on the Ebbw Valley Line

A not so pleasant piece of news is the burning down of The Central Hotel, I know this will sadden a lot of people as it holds a lot of memories for people in the village. It was due for demolition later this year I believe, but in the event it came down much more dramatically and far quicker than people had anticipated. let's hope that the planned "village square" is a successful replacement.

The annual fete was held today August Bank holiday so I took a few pictures, you can see the new members centre and also the new school - St Illtyd's Primary, in the bottom two pictures. Brynhyfryd school can be seen in the background.

We have had a glorious spring this year the weather has been really warm but I thought it might be nice to do a "Llanhilleth Through the Seasons"  gallery so here we are.

The following pictures are relatively recent and shows Llanhilleth and it's

surrounding area, much as it is today:

We are extremely lucky that we live near an area that has so much to offer in the way of

ancient monuments and areas of outstanding natural beauty such as the

Brecon Beacons and the Wye Valley. Below are some examples.

  • The Roman Amphitheatre Caerleon

  • Chepstow Castle

  • The Ermine Street Guard at Caerleon

  • Brecon Beacons

  • Cardiff Castle

  • Newport Castle

  • Tintern Abbey

  • Raglan Castle

  • Castle Coch

  • The Wye Valley

Cardiff is the capital city of Wales and Rugby is a national passion, we have a

fabulous stadium in the heart of Cardiff and to watch an International

is an experience not to be missed, win or lose it will be an occasion to remember.

These are some of the sights you might see.

Wales has just won their 2nd Grand slam in 4 years. What a great season well done boys!!
